What is Bimatoprost?

Bimatoprost is a synthetic drug that is close to the chemical structure and its therapeutic effects of natural biological compounds called prostaglandins. The main therapeutic effect of Bimatoprost is to lower the intraocular pressure and improve the growth of the eyelashes. The exact mechanism of action of Bimatoprost is not known. The drug helps to increase the flow of aqueous humor in patients with glaucoma. 

It also increases the phase of eyelash growth in women with hypotrichosis. With the anagen phase of growth, Bimatoprost increases the number of eyelashes and makes them thicker. Bimatoprost is currently approved in the United States under the trade names Latisse (used to increase eyelash growth) and Lumigan (used for high intraocular pressure). Generic Latisse provided by our company is made by Ajanta under the trade name Beat. The drug has no applicator although you can buy Latisse online which comes with the applicator.

When is Bimatoprost prescribed?

• Primarily, the drug is used to treat intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. By controlling intraocular pressure Bimatoprost helps prevent the development of blindness.

• Bimatoprost is also indicated for the growth of eyelashes in patients with hypotrichosis.

How is ophthalmic Bimatoprost used?

You should thoroughly wash your hands before using the ophthalmic solution. Do not touch the tip of the bottle with the medicine.

Wash your hands before applying ophthalmic drops. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or put in contact with your eyes or any other surface. Bimatoprost contains a preservative that can stain contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before using the solution. If you use Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution for eyelash growth, you should use a sterile applicator (which can be purchased at your local pharmacy). 

A drop of the solution should be placed closest to the tip of the applicator. Then, you should carefully trace the applicator along the skin at the base of the upper lashes. Do not apply in Eye or the lower eyelid area because excessive hair growth can occur. Eliminate any excess solution of the medication beyond the eyelid with a tissue. The applicator should be discarded after each use of this medication.

When should Bimatoprost not be used?

Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in women with known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to any of the medicinal ingredients. Do not apply this medication to the lower eyelid (lower lash). Do not allow dropper contact with surrounding objects. Only a sterile applicator can be used for eyelash growth.

Do not use the medication if you have low intraocular pressure or infectious diseases in ophthalmology. After stopping this treatment, the eyelashes will gradually return to their normal size. Do not wear contact lenses when using Bimatoprost. Do not use this medication without consulting your doctor.
